If you scroll through the comments on YouTube for Korean boy group A.C.E.'s "Take Me Higher" music video, you'll see, "kings of breaking gender stereotypes" written over and over again. Other times, a string of emojis follow it. Male K-pop stars defy gender norms on a daily basis, though, in ways that are so subtle that many fans don't even notice it's happening. You can usually spot a simple smoky eye here, a wash of lip tint there, and a nail or two painted with brightly colored polish. When breaking conventional expectations of how men should or shouldn't look, A.C.E.'s methods tend to be more overt and fashion-forward than many other K-pop groups.įor their debut in May 2017, the quintet performed its first single, "Cactus", wearing hot pants - a move that earned criticism from Yang Hyun Suk of YG Entertainment when three me appeared on reality show Mix Nine. Don't worry, A.C.E.'s main vocalist Donghun had the perfect comeback prepared. He even appeared in a teaser photo wearing a long skirt and corset, too. More recently, with "Take Me Higher," Donghun, as well as Wow, Jun, and Kim Byeongkwan slipped on belly-baring crop tops, put on flower-shaped and dangling gemstone earrings, proving that in A.C.E.'s Adventure in Wonderland, as the album is titled, anything goes. Kutenga mapiritsi a zakudya a Ace ndi kuthamanga kwa magazi. In the beginning, we didn’t know anything about makeup, but we've gotten so used to it that we do it ourselves now.Ĭhan and Jun differ on their approaches to skin care, though. The chorus is quite infectious.įollow hallyureviews on WordPress.Wow and Kim Byeongkwan point to Jun as the member with the most extensive regimen, and Chan nominates himself as the one with the simplest routine. I didn’t think too much of “Changer”, but hey, this song is definitely growing on me a lot. ![]() It feels like a mellow, subdued sibling to their older works like “Callin'” with the shrills (I’m not sure what it is called… I gotta work on my music vocab) that are present in both songs. Interestingly it doesn’t look like A.C.E’s go-to producers for title tracks (ZBS producer team) created “Changer”. “Changer” definitely feels like a suitable sequel to “Higher”. The fact they work (almost) consistently with the same producers makes me confident in their music. I remember “Under Cover” being one of the first few k-pop songs that I knew was k-pop and I was left at awe. I don’t follow A.C.E as closely but you’re right: their music is going to be missed, a lot. I always love the colloquial quotes sprinkled here and there in your reviews. That gave me a chuckle (I mean, where’s the lie?). “Donghun and Wow are off not only serving looks anymore but also the country” I am going to enjoy these songs to the fullest and get ready for one of the most interesting and underrated groups to disappear… The songs on the repackaged are actually quite interesting, we get some different versions of songs we already know ( Down in Korean hits different!) and two new songs ( Talk You Down is cute and Remember Us made me cry lol). I was in the mood for a light song like this today so a positive review you get. Also, those vocals are everything to me, the post chorus chant might be a bit silly but honestly, I’ll take it over angst. Changer has enough catchiness and A.C.E energy for me to enjoy it. Changer is a nice follow up to Higher, I know not a lot of people enjoyed that song since they have put out much stronger work but Highergrew on me a lot and this bright refreshing A.C.E is also so nice to see. Give it all to me, I am upset and need some consoling. Of course, the music video is full of fan service but rightfully so, who knows when we will see these five together again in a music video, I am all for the nostalgic happy friendship moments and silly scenes. This article is a disambiguation page for Cactus. Honestly, I forget sometimes I saw them live and that makes them enlisting even more surreal.Īs for Changer, the song is so much fun and really suits this time of year. Who do I have to bribe so we don’t lose A.C.E and have to wait until I’m 83 for them to have a full team comeback? I am being dramatic I know but cmon two comebacks in such a short amount of time? I could easily get used to it they have too much time between their comebacks usually… wait maybe enlistment will feel like that – Anyway, I expect some unit action or solo debuts while Donghun and Wow are off not only serving looks anymore but also the country.
